Frequently Asked Questions...

Do I have to be a Strider to run?

No. All runners are welcome. Well, the one caveat to that is that we must be clear of the various courses at 60 minutes, so any runner who can complete the course in 60 minutes or better is most welcome. Sorry, but not our rule. It is a club run, but all visitors are entitled to outright and lucky draw prizes, can enjoy the light refreshments, and will have their results published on the web.

When are the races on?

First Saturday in each month from February to November. NOTE: In 2004 the August race will be on the 31st of July as the 7th of August is the day before the City to Surf.

What time do they start?

Rego from 6:20am, Race at 7:00am, Awards at 8:00am, all packed up and gone by 9:00am.

Can I Preregister?

Nope. Entries only on the day. Rego from 6:20am.

Emma Chissit?

Striders $5, non members $15. NOTE: November race is for Charity - the Friends of Lane Cove National Park.

What do I get for my entry fee?

A certified 10k course with km marks, refreshments and munchies afterwards, outright and lucky draw prizes, results published on the web within a few days, mostly traffic free courses, a bunch of friendly Striders to run with.

Do I get a certificate, medal, and/or T-shirt?

No, no, and no. Well, if you are a Strider and win a series category you get a trophy, but this series is a monthly club event which allows visitors to compete, and our finances (and volunteers) just don't stretch to providing certificates, medals, or T shirts.

Can I enter the Series Points Score?

Yes, join Striders. Striders are automatically in the Points Score and eligible for trophies. Non members are not included in the Points Score.

How do I get a Handicap?

Join Striders, then when you run your first 10k as a Strider a handicap will be calculated and updated after every run.

Do I have to register to enter the Age Group, Handicap, or other Series pointscore competitions?

Once you are a Strider you will be automatically included in every relevant pointscore competition.

Can anyone enter? Am I too slow?

Anyone capable of getting around the 10k course in about 60 minutes is most welcome. The 60 minute limit is due to requirements to clear the course by 8:00am.

How fast do people run?

The greyhounds out the front usually finish in about 32 minutes. The bulk of the pack are between 40 and 50 minutes, and the tailenders at 60 minutes.

How many run?

Typically there are about 180 runners, about half are Striders, the rest visitors.

Is the course an accurate 10k?

Absolutely. Every km is marked and all the courses have been measured by the same person who measured the 2000 Olympic Marathons, Walks, and Triathlon courses.

Where are the courses?

We have 4 active courses.
  • North Head is just past Manly Hospital.
  • Lane Cove National Park is off Lady Game Drive, near Fullers Bridge.
  • Homebush is at the Village Green at Olympic Park.
  • Domain is down at Fleet Steps across Camp Cove from the Opera House.
