10km Series

Marsfield Course Description

Prepared (and measured) by Stephen Jackson

Overview

The Marsfield 10k has been a part of the Striders 10k series since its inception. Perhaps it should now be known as the M2 10k due to its proximity to the new freeway that now runs right next to the course!

Marsfield is an undulating course, not as nasty as Lane Cove, but not as fast as North Head! Certainly a course to measure your overall ability, as it has some flat bits, as well as short and long ups and downs scattered around the 2 lap course.

Course Description

Starting in the cul-de-sac of Trafalgar Place in Marsfield, the Marsfield 10k turns left onto Waterloo Rd, up the hill, left onto Culloden, and then right onto Talavera. The 1k mark comes up just after getting onto Talavera. Talavera rolls along (right next to that damn freeway where there used to be trees and parks and ..... sorry, no political comment intended) where was I? Oh yes, Talavera rolls along to Herring Rd with the 2k mark just before you turn right into Herring (no red ones here). Right again into the University entrance, through the gatehouse, and just keep following the road.

3k is at the 35kph sign three quarters of the way up the hill. At the top of the hill veer to the right towards the Film, TV, and Radio School keeping it on your right, then follow the road behind the Shell Service Station. Turn left onto Culloden and then a quick right (miss this right and end up in the middle of Epping Rd - not recommended even at 7 in the morning). So, right onto the grass footpath (a mudbath in the wet) on Epping Rd and head up the hill. Halfway up is the 4k mark.

Turn right onto Dayman Place (the first available right), straight down Vimera Rd, right into Waterloo (more downhill), and the 5k looms up just before the Trafalgar corner. Keep on Waterloo and repeat the course (not a fun thought).

6k is not long after the 1k mark, 7k in Herring Rd, 8k just after the turnoff to the Film school, and 9k in Dayman Pl. The last k is all downhill, and fast, so no excuses for not letting it all hang out! The finish is past Trafalgar, near the end of Waterloo Park.

Registration is in Waterloo Park, as are toilets and parking. Don't expect a PB, but do expect a great tune up run. Enjoy.
