Meadowbank Course Description

Prepared and measured by Stephen Jackson

Overview

The Meadowbank course starts and finishes next to the administration building at the netball courts located at the end of Adelaide St Meadowbank. It consists of a 500m loop around the carpark and netball courts, then a 1.5k loop around the suburbs to the west (to the right as you face the river), and then out and back to Putney Park in Putney. It is a mostly flat course, with undulations towards the turn at Putney Park and a nasty 300m hill at 5k. The surface is all bitumen except for about 200m metres of grass near the start. The course is well marked with yellow arrows with 3 large dots pointing the way, and each kilometre is marked in yellow, with 3 dots and the distance clearly marked.

Course Description

The start is on the west side if the admin building, just outside of the kiosk. Runners proceed north (away from the river) through the carpark towards Adelaide St, turning left at the end of the carpark, crossing to the grass, and then veering left across to the most north-westerly netball goal post. At the goal post run south (towards the river) until the last goal post is left. A 90 degree left hand turn (to the east), straight along the goal posts until the last one, then veer left (north east) across the grass towards the tall light pole on the bitumen bike path. On reaching the path turn right down the path, crossing the finish line about 20m down the path. This is about the 500m mark.

Continue east and cross the small bridge over the storm water drain. Immediately turn right and run to the bike path along the river. Turn right (west) along the bike path keeping to the right. The path continues through the mangroves for a few hundred metres, then veers right over another storm water drain. Just past the drain is a fork in the path which is also the 1km mark.

The run keeps right along the storm water drain, following the path until, after a few lefts and rights, it emerges onto Andrew St. Turn left onto the Andrew St footpath, then left again onto Macintosh St which is about 30m along Andrew St. Following the Macintosh St footpath, turn left into Crowley Crescent. Cross onto the road and follow Crowley Crescent until a path appears on the left, heading west down the bike path where the 1km mark is. On reaching that fork, keep right and head back along the waterfront to the east. The 2km mark comes up 40m after reentering the mangroves.

Follow the path to the east keeping the river on the right. Shortly the path back to the finish is passed on the left. Keep straight ahead. From here to the 6km mark is out-and-back. The path continues east, and passes under the rail bridge at the end of Bowden St. Through the parking area and bus turning circle, always keeping to the left, passing the ferry wharf on the right. Continue up Bowden St reaching the 3km mark (which is also the 9km mark on the way back) and turn right onto the bike path along the waterfront. The path leads to Rothesay Avenue which is run along, turning right into Belmore and left into Parsonage. At the top of Parsonage the run keeps to the right and goes down the footpath under Ryde Bridge. As the footpath emerges up a small hill on the other side of the bridge it turns right (east) onto Waterview St. Following Waterview and keeping to the right, the 4km mark is reached about 30m after passing Osborne Ave on the left.

The run keeps along the right hand side of Waterview St, eventually passing Yaralla Rd and the parking area at Kissing Point. As Waterview turns left and becomes Delange Rd, the run heads up a nasty 300m hill, the 5km mark about halfway up the hill, outside of number 86.

Turning right (east) into Pellisier Rd, it is a bit of a roller coaster ride all the way out to the turnaround on Pellisier, 25m past the intersection with Putney Parade. The turn around point, which is on the right hand side of the road, is also the 6km mark. Heading back along Pellisier, the run retraces itself, passing the 7km halfway down the nasty hill (same point as the 5km), the 8km just before Osborne (same point as the 4km point), under Ryde Bridge, back along Parsonage, Belmore, and Rothesay. Turning left off the bikepath into Bowden, the 9km mark is 10m down the road (next to the 3km mark).

Through the parking area, back onto the bike path, and along to the path that the run emerged from way back at the start. A 90 degree right hand turn leads up the bike path to a left hand turn over the small bridge, and it is only 80m along the bike path to the finish line.
