North Head Course Description

Prepared and measured by Stephen Jackson

Map here

Overview

New Course March 2009 The flattest and arguably fastest of the Striders courses, the course starts and finishes on North Head Scenic Drive right out near North Head proper, just past the cafe at the Artillery School. To get there from Darley Road go past Manly Hospital, through the stone arch, past the old start/finish and 2k down the road, veering left at the roundabout.

The start is in the last carpark on the right before the loop. Two laps of the loop, then out to the turn at the arch and back, around the loop, out to the turn and back, around the loop, and finish where you started.

Numerous speed humps dot the course (44 during the course of the 10k to be precise) , but a good bitumen surface makes it a good course for a PB - and if a PB is out of the question, then the views at the start/finish area at North Head are spectacular. All kilometres are marked, and the distance is certified.

Course Description

NOTE: the course is open to cars and bikes, so please be careful!

The start area map is here.

The start and finish is right out at the last carpark before the turn loop at North Head, 2nd carpark past the cafe. The start line is in line with the entrance to that last carpark. All km marks are on the left hand side of the road.

From the start line, run to the loop, keeping left, and complete a lap of the loop. The loop is 495m around. On completing the loop once, do it again. This is required to make up the total 10k.

1k is 13m before the last no stopping sign before exiting the loop the second time.

Once two laps ofthe loop are done, head back down the road through the start area and continue towards the stone arch. Keep left of the centre line at all times.

2k is 4m after the third speedhump. Keep to the left of the roundabout.

3k is 10m before the last speedhump.

The turn is 12m after the last speedhump (26m before the stone arch traffic island).

After the turn, head back from whence you came.

4k is 53m after the second speedhump after the roundabout.

5k is at the start line beforeentering the loop.

Around the loop, and then back towards the turn.

6k is 5m after the first speedhump.

Keep left of the roundabout.

7k is 15m after pole 95701, which is near the second speedhump after the roundabout.

Turn at the same place.

8k is 3m before pole 95400, just across the road from 7k.

Through roundabout, keeping left.

9k is 45m metres after last speedhump (before cafe).

Back to the loop.
