The Concept
The Club has always recognized individuals for their achievements in specific areas.
However, there is always the argument over which is better - number of events contested,
number of high placing, difficulty of individual events etc.
While those arguments can never really be resolved, Kevin O'Kane, a long term club member,
proposed the "Super Series" to look at achievements in diverse events throughout the year.
The Super Series concept aims to recognize and reward the consistent performers for their
efforts, versatility, and general support of the club.
The Super Series changes for 2010 include:
- Club Championships (CC) Marathon included - Your best time over a certifiedvmarathon course (up to 30/11/10) will be used to determine the club marathon championship for 2010 and also be used for a special Club Championship category in the Super Series this year.
- Points are only earned for races and the distance bonus. Note that to win ANY award you must volunteer at least once for the club during the year.
- Removal of non-Sydney Marathons due to inclusion of club champs marathon.
The Events... there are 9 specific events in this year's Super Series. Two results are dropped and qualifying Club Champs marathon added for final points scoring, so planning of running calendars is important.
Note: If either Sydney or Cities is your CC marathon, you need to run 7 of 8 remaining races for max points. (No doubling up of races allowed.)
The Distance Bonus... will reward the effort associated with running the longer
events - the longer the event the bigger the Distance Bonus. This emphasises that the
Striders is a distance running club, and anyway, there is always the 10k Series for the
speedsters! Think carefully as to what events get dropped in your calendar.
Age Groupings...Open Men and Women, M35 and W35 in 5 year grouping. The Age and Gender
competition is a single category with the handicapping system making allowances for age and sex.
Points...are gained for running Super Series events, volunteering at least once,
and the bonus based on the distance of the various Super Series events.
Placing Points...Across open categories the points will be 1st 100 points,
2nd 96 points, 3rd 93 points, 4th 91 points, 5th 90 points,
and then down by 1 to a minimum of 2 points.
Important... All entries to events must be in your name and must comply with the organisers' conditions.
Equally important... Any decisions relating to points, rules, conditions, or anything else
are at the total discretion of the Super Series Director. All arguments listened to, but usually ignored.
The Races
The Rules
- Only Financial Striders at the time of each event will earn points.
- Open, Age, Male, Female, and Age Gender Adjusted points will be allocated separately.
- 100 points for the first Sydney Strider
home in each category, 96 for 2nd, 93 for 3rd, 91 for 4th,
with a reduction of 1 point for each place thereafter with a minimum of 2 points scored.
- The Distance Bonus: 11-19k 0 points, 20-24k 2 points,
25-29k 3 points, 30-39k 5 points, 40-44k 7 points and 44k+
10 points.
- The results of the Sydney/Cities marathon events
will be equalised by using the distance component of the Age and
Gender Adjusted tables, then combined, and points awarded accordingly.
Note: the Distance bonus definitely applies.
- Results will be collated after the event. Best efforts to get all Striders
results will be made, but to ensure inclusion, members should advise their times
to the Super Series Co-ordinator (email below).
- In the event of a tie at the end of the series, a countback based on number of
scoring events, then dropping 1 score, then dropping no scores, then highest placed finishes
to separate the runners.
The Awards
Awards will be made to the person with the highest accumulated points
(less their 2 lowest event results) after the final race of the Super Series.
