The Concept

The Super Series, was originally conceived by life member Kevin O'Kane, to recognise and reward consistent performance of members, across a range of distance events (10kms+) through the year, relative to other Sydney Striders members. Previously it comprised of about one race event per month over a 10 month period, with a few "either/or" alternatives to provide options over other distances and locations.

As club membership has grown, so has participation in a more diverse range of short and long distance events, on different terrains. With the late cancellation in 2012 of three scheduled events (Six Foot Track, Willy to Billy and Kedumba Half), we recognised there was a need to better anticipate this and to pre-schedule additional events to provide greater flexibility for members.

For 2013, we have retained the club favourites. But rather than one event per month with an occasional alternative, we have listed a greater range of events ove rthe year, with additional events for members transitioning up to longer distance from 10kms, or looking for a challenge through to an ultra distance event, beyond road and Six Foot Track Marathons. The number of listed events for 2013 has been increased from 17 to 30 events.

We have also reviewed the points and bonus structure to ensure that longer distances or more difficult events are fairly weighted relative to shorter distances or less difficult events. Also generally that events with larger Striders participation are more fairly weighted compared to events with smaller Striders participation.

Basic Points:

Basic points continue to be awarded on your best 8 events. You can participate in as many events as you choose.
The basic points scales have been amended and simplified to more fairly reflect the actual numbers of Striders participating in each event:

For example:

Events with up to 24 Striders participating in a category, will be allocated points as follows:
1st place: 30 points / 2nd Place 26 pts / 3rd place 23 pts / 4th place 21 pts / 5th place 20 pts / 19 pts etc... / 24th place: 1 pt.

Events with 24+ Striders participating in a category, are allocated points on an incrementally increasing scale, based on the total number of striders in that category, as follows. Assuming 30 Striders in category:

1st Place: 36 points / 2nd place 32 pts / 3rd place 29 pts / 4th place 27 pts / 5th place 26 pts / 25 pts etc.... / 30th place: 1 pt.

Difficulty Bonus:

A difficulty bonus will be assigned to each race to acknowledge the greater preparation, effort and recovery involved in longer and more difficult events.

Striders team bonus

Where events offer a team listing option, 2 bonus points will be awarded to members who enter under the Striders team option to encourage visibility of our club at these events, the results listing and competitiveness in team awards on offer.

Individual event points

Results are now awarded for each and every individual event. Results will no longer be combined and normalised with alternative events in any given month. This means that your effort in each event is directly scored vs the other Striders. in your category in that same event. For example runners in the Canberra 50km event are not scaled or scored vs runners who run the Marathon option.

Volunteer requirement

To be eligible for any awards at the end of the season, you must have officially volunteered (and have it recorded) for the club during that year.

Members only events

The Equaliser and Internal Half Handicap are now joined by another new internal event, the Internal 10km Handicap. All three events are for financial members only, but are provded free of charge.

Event Rules

Members must comply with all of the official rules for each respective event.

Results confirmation

Our volunteer results collators do a great job of matching your name to the published results. However you know your results best and it is ultimately your responsibility to check and confirm they are captured and recorded correctly and to advise us if they are not. Please email any corrections to

Directors decision

All decisions in relation to the Super Series are at the total discretion of the Super Series Director.

The Current Pointscores and Awards

Awards in the following categories will be made at the Annual Christmas Brunch based upon the highest accumulated points after the final race of the Super Series. In the event of a tie for a place in any category the winner will be determined on a count back of head to head results. Progressive pointscores for each category are available through the links in the table.
