The club has an email list that is available to any club member FREE! of charge. The definition of the list is not clear and is a mixture of club news as passed down by committee members, hot gossip about the club, it's members or just about this'n'that. There are approx 600 members (it is restricted to members only) currently on the list. Volume of emails received is around 2 or 3 per week.
The following is a copy of the Frequently Asked Questions regarding the list, that is initially sent to all new subscribers. It is reproduced here for those people that have lost it, or for the curious.

This document is sent out to all new members. I suggest that you read it
through at least once and then save it away for future reference. In it I
have attempted to answer most of the questions members ask frequently.
Here are the subjects this email covers :
1. What is it ?
2. Sending messages to other Striders
3. IMPORTANT NOTES ON EMAIL ETIQUETTE:
4. Leaving the list
5. Joining the list
6. Striders Web Page
7. HELP !?
What is it ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This list is an easy way for members of the Sydney Striders Running
Club to stay in touch with each other, make announcements, pass on
information, have a whinge or just have a good old natter ...
It enables us to communicate with each other from the comfort of our homes
or offices etc. This is better than trying to talk when we are running up
the Bobbin Head hill or whatever.
Sending messages to other Striders
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can send an email to all other registered members of the list, without
even knowing their email addresses or even who they are. There are currently
close to 600 members of the list.
Just send a message to the address :
sydneystriders@yahoogroups.com
with whatever subject and body you choose.
The system will automatically (and pretty much immediately) send a copy on
to all other members.
All messages sent to the list will have "[Sydney Striders]" appended to the subject so
that you know on receiving it that it has been sent to everyone. If you use a
recent version of mail program you can filter these messages into a separate folder
in case you want to keep them separate from other emails.
Note: that only members of the list can send messages to the list.
If you are away from your own computer, you should be able to read an archive of
messages sent at this address : http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/sydneystriders/
although you will need to set-up a 'YahooID'. It's a fairly painless procedure.
More information on the email list and its opeation and settings can be found here :
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/sydneystriders/
IMPORTANT NOTES ON EMAIL ETIQUETTE:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a) Even though you may have access to the latest you-beaut email package
that can send file attachments in various guises, other people may not and
so they just receve a whole bunch of binary characters. Please just type
your message, DON'T send attachments. In fact, with this version of software
attachments will be stripped from your message.
b) The same also goes for "rich text" html-style email messages. Plain text
is preferable.
c) Be very careful that the message you are sending or replying to is being
sent to who you want it to go to. If it is a personal reply check that it
is not being sent to everyone on the list if you do not intend that.
d) Please take care when replying to messages that you do not copy back to
the list entire copies of other emails. Most programs will do this when you
hit the "reply" button. Please try to summarise the prvious message of just
cut out the section you are referring to.
e) DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES tell us all about "new!" virus alerts or
people that are dying of cancer and who want to receive get well messages.
These are part of internet folklore and are usually false and somebody,
somewhere is having a chuckle at your expense.
Leaving the list
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you should send
mail to
info@sydneystriders.org.au
and ask to be removed. Alternatively, if you have established a YahooID, you
can control these settings yourself (ie. remove yourself from the list).
Joining the list
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Membership of this email list is only open to members of Sydney Striders.
There is no way to subscribe other than to send email to :
info@sydneystriders.org.au
and ask to be added. A check will then be made to ensure that you are a
current financial member.
Once added, anyone on the list is free and able to send a message to everyone else.
Striders Web Page
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is likely that you already know of the Striders Web Page at :
http://www.sydneystriders.org.au
Much of the information is pertinent to newcomers who don't (yet) know
about the Striders. However, we are trying to put up some historical
information eg old "Blister" articles, and also some race reports of
runs in the Sydney area, which may be of use when thinking of entering
different events.
Much of the work on the web page has been undertaken by myself as a labour
or love, but new ideas are ALWAYS welcome (even constructive criticism).
HELP !?
